Insurance

Travel insurance is highly recommended to cover you during your  lecture phase here in Alaska even if you are a US citizen. As per your Outreach Phase, Travel Insurance will be provided.

Climate

Interior Alaskan weather can be unpredictable at times, especially in what we call “break-up season” or the spring thaw. You can expect degrees anywhere from below 0*F to the 50’s*F.

We recommend bringing clothing and boots that you withstand the chill and or mud of the outdoors during this time of year.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend bringing warm clothes that you can layer, warm shoes and water proof/ resistant shoes. Personal hygiene supplies ( we do have 1 store close by but options are limited), towels, shower shoes, bible and journaling supplies and a hunger for adventure 😉

During this time of year the bears will most likely be starting to come out of hibernation but they tend to stay in or near the park. So we shouldn’t have much of a problem where we’re at. If there is a sighting near us, we will let all students and staff members know asap. Just make sure that you keep an open eye out, and NEVER TRAVEL ALONE!

Most likely not! You may get chilly though if you’re  not used to the cold. Dressing in layers can help  you stay nice and warm even outside!

Each  newly built room consists of 2 bunkbeds,  dressers w/ mirrors, a window, plus a heater and of course your roommates. There are also 3 showers and  3 toilets to each hall.

Where the base is located, it is about a 15 min drive into Denali National Park where you can hike, site see, and enjoy the beauty of Gods creation. within the town of Healy we have a few different restaurant options as well as coffee shops and out Local Grocery store called Three Bears. The base is also located next to a creekbed where  you can hike, explore or have some personal quiet time close by.

Since the Lecture Phase is only about 3 months long, you do not need to buy or rent a car during your time with us. We will be able to provide transportation for events or needed travel.

Each year my vary, but as an expected ratio there may be 1 staff to 1 student this year.

YWAM Denali stands by the YWAM code of conduct on our dating policies for DTS Students.  DTS students are not allowed to begin new romantic relationships during your time with us in, Lecture and Outreach. Our hope is for you to focus on growing your relationship with God during this time without distractions.

The food will be a variety of meats, grains, veggies, and fruits with recipes that are inspired not only here in Alaska but the US, and other countries throughout the world. We will do our best to accommodate allergies and intolerances in our cooking.
